The block type form established from bringing the front of the dwelling forward and its western orientation influenced a design decision to create a complex series of openings in the façade,allowing forplenty of natural light to the children’s bedrooms within. .... in order to satisfy the architect/urban planner’s desire to differentiate the facades according to the direction they face, the surface of the walls is smoother, darker and glossy on walls facing north-east and north-west, and rough, light and matt on walls facing south-east and south-west, which are turned towards the sun. It seeks to insert the new buildings, minimizing interventions in topography and preserving as much existing vegetation. Metal structure was the choice for the club pavilion, because it can cover large spans with structural parts of small dimensions, allowing, without further interference, the use of glass walls. ....we turned to origami, for its simplicity, firm softness, continuity in the enclosures, and versatile replicability in changing contexts. In origami, continuity of matter is required. In this case we used a sandwich sheet of pre-painted white galvanized steel. The great casing suspended as a canopy almost 25 metre high is a prominent landmark and protects shopkeepers and users from the sunlight. The casing is arranged by variable-width bands. The new project is unifying the square and we worked hard to keep the pedestrian level as open as possible, for a better orientation and to generate generosity. For this reason we created a big roof construction without visible columns. Also all the overhead lines are fixed directly on the roof and create a floating grid. This infrastructure project, which includes a metro station, offers the opportunity to upgrade this lively urban space bustling with activity. Two stations share the piazza: open space, composed of urban parks, luxuriant gardens, large ponds, a protected area, a hypogeum covered with a large pergola and an open promenade with boutiques lining both sides. Tulane Students Upcycle Traffic Signs into Shade Canopy , City Park, New Orleans, Louisiana, USA, 2013 designed by Tulane City Center
Tulane City Center and a team of Tulane architecture students worked together with the Lousiana Outdoor Outreach Program to design a shade structure made from traffic yield signs for a challenge course in City Park. Drawing inspiration from the surrounding tree canopy and the structure of the ropes course, the design team crafted a faceted, curving aluminum canopy suspended by steel cables with an earthen berm for seating below. -- ArchDaily
